The continent – which has seen 60% of the world’s coronavirus cases in the last week – needs to step up and mandate vaccinations, according to a key WHO official for Europe.
Robb Butler described Europe as “once again the epicenter” of Covid-19. Mr Butler told Sky News it is a healthy debate to have in order to encourage populations to get vaccinated. He did acknowledge there are “lessons of history… where mandates have come at the expense of trust & social inclusion.”
Former WHO director Anthony Costello has urged caution where people already lack trust in their governments – adding we don’t want lockdowns or mandatory vaccines.
